Drinking Water Contaminated with Drugs |
AP Investigation Finds Drinking Water Contaminated With DrugsBy: Drucilla Dyess
Published: Thursday, 13 March 2008
According to several news sources on March 9th, The Associated Press (AP) conducted an investigation over a period of five months and discovered that an assortment of drugs have been detected in the drinking water supplies of 24 major metropolitan areas serving at least 41 million Americans all over the United States.
Drugs such as antibiotics, anti-convulsants, mood stabilizers, sex
hormones, acetaminophen and ibuprofen were found in the water samples
taken during the investigation. Although the concentration of the drugs
found measured to be in quantities of parts per billion or trillion,
far below the levels of a medical dose, the presence of so many
prescription and over-the-counter medicines in such a vast amount of
our drinking water is raising concerns among scientists about long-term
effects on human health.

Why I Bought A Berkey Water Purifier
by Isis Kopel
When I moved to Nashville,
one of the first things I had on my "to do" list was to get a Berkey® Water
Purifier and Heirloom Seeds. Cognizant of the state of affairs of our nation
and the severe Earth changes that are taking place, I wanted to be absolutely
sure that my family did not lack potable water and food, should a national or
worldwide water and food emergency occur.
I have always been an advocate for self-sufficiency, and getting off the
grid and living off the land was also on my list of things to do, but that was
towards the bottom of the list. One of the reasons I made it a priority to
purchase the Berkey® Water Purifier was because of the possibility of a water
shortage due to climate changes and the water restrictions that ensue. If there
is a water crisis and our only water supply is a mucky pond, how do we drink
this water without getting sick? Another reason, and my main reason, was the
ghastly chorine fumes coming from my faucet and from my glass of water. Forget
the parasites in the mucky pond, I thought, the chorine will get me first!
